Terms of Use

Last updated: 17 July 2026 · Applies to Archessa v0.1.0 and archessa.com

The short version

Archessa is free while in beta. Everything you put into it stays yours, and we never see it. It's early software that touches your whole archive — so keep your original exports, and don't rely on it as your only copy.

1. Who you're agreeing with

Archessa ("Archessa", "we", "us") is built and operated by an independent solo developer, trading as a sole trader and based in Taiwan. By downloading, installing or using Archessa, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't install it.

2. Your licence to use Archessa

We grant you a personal, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, revocable licence to install and use Archessa on computers you own or control, for personal or commercial purposes.

You may not: resell or redistribute the software as your own; remove or obscure attribution; or use it to break the law.

Archessa is not open source. The compiled application is provided to you; the source code is not licensed to you.

3. Your content stays yours

Your conversations, exports, documents, notes, tags and everything Archessa derives from them remain entirely yours. We claim no ownership, no licence, and no right to use them for anything.

This is not a generous concession — it's a description of the architecture. Archessa stores everything on your own computer and transmits none of it, so we could not access, use or train on your content even if we wanted to. See the Privacy Policy for the specifics.

4. Beta software — please keep your exports

Archessa is version 0.1.0 and is explicitly beta. It may contain bugs, may misfile things, may fail to import an export, and may change substantially between versions.

Archessa is not a backup product. It builds an index from the export files you give it. Keep those original export files, and keep your own backups of anything you care about. Do not let Archessa be the only copy of anything.

5. Price

Archessa is currently free to download and use while in beta. We may introduce paid features or paid versions in future. If we do, we won't retroactively start charging you for a version you already installed, and we won't disable software already on your machine.

6. No warranty

Archessa is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will correctly organize, classify or summarize any particular conversation. The organizing is performed by an automated model and it will sometimes be wrong.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use Archessa — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these terms or Archessa shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us for Archessa in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of liability for certain damages. Where that is the case, the above exclusions and limitations apply to you only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

8. Third-party components

Archessa bundles open-source components, each licensed under its own terms. It also loads certain assets from third-party CDNs at runtime, and it can use a locally installed copy of Ollama for on-device AI. Ollama and those CDNs are not operated by us and are governed by their own terms. The Privacy Policy lists exactly which connections these are.

9. Changes

We may update these terms as Archessa develops. We'll change the date at the top when we do. Material changes will be noted on this page. Continuing to use Archessa after a change means you accept the updated terms.

10. Termination

You may stop using Archessa at any time by uninstalling it — no account to close, nothing to cancel, and nothing of yours retained by us, because we never had it.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. The courts of Taiwan shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer, nothing in this clause deprives you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your own country of residence, or of your right to bring proceedings in your local courts where the law gives you that right.
